About us

I got my first guinea pigs when I was 5 years old and have fell in love with them ever since. Despite their initial shyness, they each have individual personalities, habits, and are highly intelligent creatures.

Daydreamer Cavies is a new cavy stud dedicated to producing healthy purebred cavies, promoting show cavies, and education. My goal is to work on preserving healthy show lines of purebred cavies wile discouraging the harmful backyard breeding of non-purebred, unregistered guinea pigs. I am a member of the New Zealand Cavy Council and Otago Cavy Club. When buying from a registered breeder such as myself, you can be assured that each cavy will be healthy and treated for mites and parasites. I am also very happy to offer life-long advice and support.

At Daydreamer Cavies, we also provide a range of services such as grooming services, free sex checks, and advice.

Meet the residents!

Prickly, Male, Pet-only

Prickly and Sharkdog are mix-breed brothers that were rehomed to me. Prickly is a big 1kg pig with a mohawk and shy personality. He likes to stay by his brother's side but gets more confident when the food comes out. Like most guinea pigs, his favourite things are eating and sleeping. You will often see him loafing behind a hide.

Sharkdog, Male, Pet-only

Sharkdog is the most bold and confident of the two, despite being smaller. He is always the first to drag the pellet bowls into a hide in the morning and likes to wait in the front of the cage for food. One of his favourite things is to do zoomies and popcorns after a cage clean

Oakleigh Charcoal (Edwina), Female, Show-quality

Edwina is a beautiful chocolate rex from Oakleigh cavies. True to the rex breed, she is quite calm and confident, and is very cuddly and sweet. One of her favourite things to do is cuddling up and falling fast asleep on fleece blankets.

Cornish ____ (Belle), Female, Show-quality

Belle is a baby alpaca guinea pig who I recently adopted from a local cavy stud. Like most youngsters, she is shy and quite vocal, and is learning how to beg for food from the other pigs. She loves to hide in her fleece tunnel and do laps and popcorns around her cage at night. I'm going to be growing out her coat and learning how to wrap it as she has great potential in shows!

Claremont Black Betty, Female, Show-quality

Black Betty is my beautiful big self-black pig from Claremont cavies! True to self-blacks she’s shy but very sweet and loves head pats. She loves her food and is already over 900 grams at 5 months! I’m very excited to see how she will do at future shows!

Perdita, Female, Pet-only

Perdita was a young, determined, and sweet dalmatian girl with a funny personality. She was generally quite shy or skittish, until veggie time. Her favourite things to do were wheeking at the top of her lungs with excitement as I opened the door and eating hay and veggies with her friend Edwina.
Perdita and her babies unfortunately died in a tragic and unpredictable accident. She was an amazing mother to her three baby boys, a good friend to Edwina, and was very loved and spoilt along with her babies.
